Tips to Motivate the Students To Study English Language

Long way back I read the best definition of motivation for the language learners which I still remember. The definition says the driving source to learn an L2 is the people’s need or desire to learn. This need or desire actually works as a motivational factor.
Intrinsic and extrinsic factors are two types of motivation works in this world that can affect the learning process of humans. Intrinsic motivation is the driving force which usually encourages the person to do the work which he enjoys doing it whereas external rewards drive the extrinsic motivation. Rewards could be money, grade, need, and so on. So, it can be said that external factors greatly affect extrinsic motivation as in this, the source of motivation such as parents and teachers give the strength to the person to go for a particular task.

Normally, most students have their own motivation and some students need a motivational thrust to go for a goal like to study English language in Canada, from time to time. Normally, there are many things a teacher can do to motivate the students to learn. These things I have gathered here after a thorough research work:

Good classroom activity is the thing which motivates the students along with the feeling that the activity will help them in future. But, when it comes to comparing unsuccessful learners with good learners, it has found that the unsuccessful learners are so accustomed to experience failure, so one more failure doesn't make much difference, but those students need special attention of the teachers to get on the success side.

Here, I am mentioning some strategies and tips for the teachers to motivate the students for learning the English language in Canada.

·         The first thing which is needed the most is to provide a supportive environment that will actually build the trust for a thing. it is seen most of the time that parents and teachers work as a motivation factor in the case of learning English. For that teacher or parents need to establish a healthy relationship with the student. By the term a healthy relationship, I mean a personal level interaction with the student.

·         Maintain a level of activity according to student’s level of intelligence. For this, you need to give a challenge that is neither too difficult nor too easy for the student.

·         Always show the level of growth to motivate the student as learning involves long term efforts, it is not one day process.

·         To get the best results, break down the whole learning process into smaller pieces.
Always try to lower the tension of performance during the learning process.
